In 1985 I launched out into what we called, "full time ministry" and I became the youth pastor at a church in my hometown of Stoke on Trent. I immediately approached local schools for the opportunity to present in morning assemblies and after an initial trial a number of schools opened their doors to us. This began ten years of schools ministry across the UK which I enjoyed immensely.
I have recently launched another schools ministry in the city of St Louis, Missouri and in The Ville neighborhood, in particular, where we have focused on playing a small part in two schools providing coats and groceries, enhanced the beauty of the buildings, purchased books that express diversity and reflect the world in which the children live.
So, here is what happened in one neighborhood school this week; we redeveloped an old science laboratory/classroom into a staff lounge. One member of staff remarked to us this week that she had worked in nine schools and this would be the very first staff lounge she had experienced. The 'big reveal' happens next week.
As you can see from the photos, it has seen a total transformation and we cannot wait to introduce the staff to a space for them that includes furniture and furnishings, air fryer, coffee maker, TV, drinks fridge, microwave and much more. We are excited!
Special thanks to Stone Creek Church, Urbana, Illinois and Pastors Ricky & Shea Spindler for sponsoring this labor of love, promoting not just education for children but for reminding staff that they are deeply appreciated.
Watch this space for the 'Big Reveal'!
