Experiencing God's Hospitality: A Summer with Friends in Rostock

Michael Schulz

Earlier this summer, I was given an amazing opportunity to spend time with our friends and collaborators, the Reimer’s in Rostock, Germany. I had met Daniel, Larissa and their family back in 2023 while they were on sabbatical in Champaign/Urbana, IL with Stone Creek Church.

During their time in the United States, Daniel and I traveled to Tampa, Florida to retreat with our friends at the Underground Network and other microchurch leaders from around the world. Our time in Tampa with the Underground Network was both encouraging and challenging. (This has been the dichotomy of all my visits with the Underground.) Hearing stories from disciples of Jesus from around the world living simply on Mission, in Community and Worshipping Jesus through such diverse and beautiful expressions of love fills me with hope and joy while also confronting my struggles to live simply for Jesus.

My visit with the Reimer family and their extended church family was such a magnificent expression of God’s hospitality and unconditional love. Our meals together with the Reimer's were filled with conversation of how God is moving this exquisite corner of the world. Our time with the church was spent telling stories of encounters with the Holy Spirit and drawing close to God through listening prayer. Refreshing times of worship together lead us into powerful times of prayer where many were healed from physical ailments as well as set free from spiritual strongholds.

Words cannot express my gratitude for God giving me the opportunity take this extraordinary journey to spend time with my friends in Rostock, Germany. I was overwhelmed with their hospitality, love and friendship.

God loves this unique expression of His church, and I look forward to my next visit.
