In April of this year, I was so blessed to spend time with fellow Canvas Network collaborators, the Reimer family during their sabbatical in the US.
As co-Gen-Xers, we grew up on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain but we were unified by the life-giving power of Jesus Christ long before we ever met.
During our time together, they shared the vision God was birthing in them for Rostock (formerly East Germany and still ravaged practically and spiritually by the lingering effects of communism) and I knew that somehow God was forging our hearts together in a “road to Emmaus”- like fire.
God made a way for me to travel to Rostock Germany in November to join Kevin and the Reimers for a week. I left intent on serving and encouraging the Reimer's but as God often does, the more I tried to pour out the more He filled me up.
Our trip started with the privilege of teaching and equipping at their weekly Youth Group meeting (wow! They are incredible!) and finished with sharing my heart with Rostock University students in a campus ministry group. In between, we learned about this specific mission field, it’s history (even standing where Reagan’s “tear down this wall” speech happened), listened and shared in the pioneering process, had sacred time where Holy Spirit moved in tangible ways, and so much “safe space” fellowship (and delicious food) in the Reimer’s hospitality.
I can’t wait to see what God paints on the canvas of Rostock through his faithful servants the Reimer's and I look forward to the next time I can visit already.
